Why you should definitely go to Shrine Mont

Let me tell you about Shrine Mont, that magical little slice of heaven tucked away at the foot of a mountain. Over the years, it’s become my go-to escape for a lot of reasons. Before kids, I mastered the art of “porch surfing”—a charming activity where you hop from one porch to another, chatting with whoever happens to be sitting there. Admittedly, I was the new person at the church, so I didn’t really know anyone. But the great thing about Shrine Mont is that everyone’s always ready for a chat, so it was both normal and welcomed.

Fast forward to when I was pregnant (but not allowed to tell anyone). I remember wondering how I was going to sneak in naps or avoid the temptation of shared wine. Turns out, lots of people nap and don’t drink! No one even noticed I was missing. Victory!

When the kids were small, my friend Tom and I were tasked with running the children’s program. Neither of us had a clue what we were doing, but hey, it turned out to be great fun! As the years passed and the kids grew older, we learned what they loved most about Shrine Mont: the freedom. The glorious, unstructured freedom to roam without the worry of getting truly lost. (The mountain curves around the grounds so they’re never far from safety.)

So, have you ever thought about going to Shrine Mont, but just haven’t gotten around to it? Well, let me be your unofficial tour guide and convince you it’s time.
