Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC)

St. Michael's actively supports the mission of Arlington Food Assistance Center to feed our neighbors in need by providing dignified access to nutritious supplemental groceries. Food insecurity is an ongoing problem for many residents in Arlington. Since the beginning of COVID-19, AFAC has experienced a 45% increase in referrals. Through financial contributions, volunteer shifts at the warehouse, and food drives, St. Michael's partners with AFAC in serving the greater Arlington community.
Engagement Opportunities:
Sign up here for a Saturday afternoon volunteer opportunity at the AFAC warehouse, 2708 S. Nelson Street. Join us on the first Saturday of the month from 12:30-2:30. Volunteers meet at the AFAC warehouse and bag produce, rice, beans for later distribution to clients. Volunteers must be at least twelve years old, wear close-toed shoes, and a hat or hair net.
For the holidays, we are collecting low-sugar cereal, canned tuna, or canned chicken to support AFAC. Deposit donations in the AFAC box in the Guild Hall by December 20.
More details on AFAC, to support a family’s food needs this holiday season, and to volunteer are at afac.org.
Recent Events:
In the past year, St Michaels has volunteered at the AFAC distribution center, monthly. Cumulatively, our yearly volunteer time is over 200 hours. We also donated nearly 800 pounds of cereal and canned goods through food drives.
