St. Michael’s Shrine Mont Weekend, September 18-20, 2020

St. Michael’s annual weekend at Shrine Mont will be September 18-20. Our Shrine Mont weekend is a great time for all ages! Come join fellow parishioners for an opportunity to unplug, unwind, and commune with our Creator in a serene and inspiring outdoor setting.

Officially, Shrine Mont is the Cathedral Shrine of the Transfiguration and a Conference Center of the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia. The outdoor shrine is actually the Cathedral of the Diocese of Virginia. Shrine Mont is located 110 miles from St. Michael’s in Orkney Springs, VA. You can get to Shrine Mont in as little as two hours, depending on I-66 West traffic.

This year, St. Michael’s will gather at Shrine Mont after a long period of isolation, from family members, our friends, colleagues, fellow commuters, diners, shoppers, and, of course, our fellow parishioners. How has this isolation shaped us? What lessons might we draw from this extraordinary circumstance? How do we begin anew after experiencing something so profound? If isolation tests our faith, might it also be a wellspring of strength?

Joining us this year is Roger Bowen (pictured above), retired chaplain at Shrine Mont, who brings with him a wealth of experiences in the Episcopal Church. He is the Episcopal Church’s national liaison between Episcopal schools in Haiti and the U.S. and served as headmaster of two Episcopal schools and the chaplain at two others. He served in the Peace Corps and was the associate Peace Corps director in Tonga, South Pacific. Roger is a juggler, a performer of two magic tricks, and a storyteller—all talents that will serve us well during our weekend!

Registration is open and available here.

Cost (which includes delicious comfort food from Friday dinner to Sunday lunch) for adults in a single occupancy room is $210. Cost for adults in a double occupancy room is $160 each. Thanks to the generosity of our parish, children 18 and under attend for free!
