Coming Soon to a Theater Near Us!
Most Episcopalians have heard Presiding Bishop Michael Curry proclaim that the way of Jesus is the way of love. Soon, the broader community will have a chance to hear that message at the movies! A documentary based on Bishop Curry’s message,A Case for Love, will be shown nationwide on Tuesday, January 23, including at the AMC Theater at Tysons Corner. Show times will be at 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM. The run time is 1 hour, 55 minutes.
The film starts by taking note of the political strife and social unrest in our country today. The situation is distressing, and yet there’s hope: we don’t have to live like this. Following Jesus’ way of love is the answer. “We will either learn to live together as brothers and sisters, or we will perish together as fools, Bishop Curry declares. That’s the ultimate community: all of us together in the God who made us.”
The documentary is far from an extended sermon; Bishop Curry himself has only a small part. Instead, the movie interviews a range of people—from different backgrounds and circumstances—who have tried to live their lives selflessly. In hearing their stories, the movie argues “the case for love”: that “the personal practice of unselfish love has the power to positively transform each of us, those around us, and by extension the world.”
More details about the film are available at its website. The website includes a trailer, background information, and resources for discussion after viewing it.
