St. Michael's supports local social services agencies that serve our neighbors in need. Through volunteer activities, monetary donations, and gifts in kind, we seek to serve Christ in all persons. We also conduct a monthly collection, through which we give warm clothes, blankets, toiletries, food items, school supplies and books. For many years St. Michael's volunteers have prepared bagged meals the second Sunday each month for the Arlington Street People's Alliance Network (A-SPAN) to distribute to the homeless in Arlington. St. Michael's parishioners are long-time financial supporters of Doorways (formerly TACTS), the emergency shelter and safe house for women and families. We also provide assistance through basket collections of food, household items and gift cards for purchasing back-to-school supplies.Read More »
St. Michael's long-time commitment to the Meals on Wheels program continues. Our volunteers deliver meals to the home-bound three times a month. Additional volunteers are always needed and appreciated.
St. Michael’s Nursing Home Ministry is one way we actively bring God’s grace out into the broader Arlington community. For nearly 30 years, the St. Michael’s community and additional friends have carried Morning Prayer or Holy Eucharist services to residents of Regency Care of Arlington each Sunday morning and once a month at Powhatan Nursing Home.

Formerly called Christmas in April, Rebuilding Together keeps dozens of St. Michaelites busy each year on the last Saturday in Aprilrefurbishing a home for a low income family or individual in our community. St Michael’s partners with the Salvation Army to provide toys and clothes to more than 50 local economically disadvantaged children through the Angel Tree project. In addition, our Youth Group spends a Saturday morning before Christmas at the Salvation Army warehouse helping to organize the mountain of gifts that are donated from across Arlington.
Food insecurity is an ongoing problem for many residents in Arlington, and St. Michael’s continues to support the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC). Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing builds and owns rental housing that is affordable to Arlington's low wage earners. St. Michael's has supported APAH's school age children by providing new backpacks filled with school supplies.
