Artist’s Biographical Information

Ronni Jolles graduated from Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C., and subsequently earned a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University, where she majored in art and psychology. While at Cornell, she worked in a wide variety of media, including photography, drawing, painting, and wood carving. Post-college, Jolles continued her art studies at the Museum of Fine Arts, in Boston, Massachusetts, and at the now-shuttered Corcoran Gallery of Art in the District of Columbia.

After spending 18 years as an arts educator, teaching drawing, painting, ceramics, collage, printmaking, and sculpture, Jolles decided to become a full-time professional artist. Drawn to collage and its tactility, Jolles took up papermaking, subsequently sourcing papers throughout the world. Deciding to concentrate on making works with paper instead of making paper, Jolles began layering papers to create what she describes as textural paintings. By distinguishing herself with this innovative art form, Jolles has had her work featured in galleries and art spaces throughout the country.

In addition to being a member of Great Falls Studios, an artists’ group in Great Falls, Virginia, where she lived for more than two decades, Jolles is involved with Chevy Chase Artists and teaching venues at which she continues to give informative talks about her work to school children, communities of the elderly, and artist groups.

Born in Rochester, New York, Jolles currently lives in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
