Artist Talk

‘Women at Work”

Sunday, September 26, 2021

4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Parish Hall, St. Michael’s Episcopal Church

During my Artist Talk, I will tell my audience all kinds of things about myself and about my artistic process and my work. I will begin with a short personal history of why I became an artist and describe my journey as an artist and teacher. I also will talk about my medium of paper—something that is undervalued in our society. Because I always bring to every talk a big bag of my papers, those who attend will be able to touch the many kinds of paper I use and learn and understand more about my medium. It is important to me that my audience see and feel the intensity and vitality of my pieces.

My process is quite different from that of a painter, so it’s fun to explain how I create my work. I will bring with me several “in process” pieces, so that I can show you the steps I follow in creating a work of paper art. I also will talk about the individual pieces in the exhibition, about the papers I chose for each piece, and how and why I created the particular work. For this particular talk at St. Michael’s, I will make note of a now-long-ago conversation I had with Reverend Beth Franklin and Arts & Faith Ministry Leader Maureen Doallas, and how the idea for the exhibition “Women at Work” was born.

I welcome questions and comments, and I always stay a bit after a talk so that I can meet those who attend. I consider it a wonderful gift to speak with people who take the time to really look at what I’ve created. I am grateful to St. Michael’s for giving me this opportunity to share and discuss my art with members of the parish and others who come to view the exhibition. Thank you!
