Outreach Contribution to Relief Efforts in Ukraine through World Central Kitchen
March 24, 2022: Soon after the war in Ukraine broke out, the St. Michael’s Outreach committee began looking for a way to support those who had been displaced. The committee immediately authorized a contribution of $2,000, which was possible because of your faithful pledges, 8% of which are designated for outreach in 2022. World Central Kitchen is run by a face that is familiar to us locally, José Andrés. The speed and expanse of their response gave us confidence that our gift would make a difference. Your faithful pledges allow us to respond immediately and generously. Thank you.
As World Central Kitchen reports, over one million meals have been served as #ChefsforUkraine relief efforts grow, “With bombs still falling day and night, millions of Ukrainians continue to flee the country or relocate west to the city of Lviv. In response, WCK is rapidly expanding our #ChefsForUkraine response to distribute food—including hot, fresh meals—in five countries. We’ve now opened a kitchen and food supply depot in Poland, right on the border with Ukraine, and have multiple warehouses active in Lviv where trucks are filled with food to head east reaching cities like Odessa and Mykolayiv. We are also supporting more restaurants to serve meals in Ukrainian cities including Kharkiv and Kyiv, which remain under active attack.”
