More Excitement at the Rectory
A huge thanks to Roy Searles, partner with Authentic Construction, who just happened to be up on the ladder and noticed that the electrical ground wire and the power line into the house had been chewed by squirrels. The ground wire was completely severed and the insulation around the hot wire was exposed in several places. Construction came to a screeching halt as Dominion Energy was called in to assess the situation. Six power company trucks arrived to restring the severed wires, and repair additional damage at the pole, which also impacted the surrounding houses. The Dominion Energy foreman noted that we were extremely fortunate to have caught this, especially given the plumbing and electrical work being done in the house, which could have sparked a fire.
The crew made lots of progress this week, including finishing the framing and roof on the screened porch, installing the kitchen cabinets, and starting to lay the tile in the kitchen. One side of the roof and flashing along the side of the dormer has been removed and replaced where the shingles had been improperly installed; the other side will likely need to be replaced as well. Work has also begun on replacing the exterior trim and siding on the dormer.
