Leadership Transition
In the Episcopal Church we place great value in the ministry of all baptized persons. This is reflected in our baptismal liturgy, as well as our theology. Practically, it should be evident in the ways in which our churches function, honoring the many and varied gifts of those who are gathered in all leadership roles. Frankly, at St. Michael’s this reality is joyfully and vibrantly reflected in our communal life because of each of you!
This week we are completing a transition in vestry leadership, which has been unfolding for several months. As a reminder, the mission statement of the vestry is: To lead St. Michael’s in carrying out its mission, the vestry will discern and communicate God’s call, and care for St. Michael’s resources. Our vestry consists of nine individuals who are elected at our Annual Meeting, and serve a three year term. The Vestry works consistently throughout the year to support all ministries of the church, and hold us accountable to our mission.
Caroline Haynes has served as our Senior Warden for the past year and a half, and a graciously extended Vestry term. Additionally, major capital emergencies, and my parental leave landed in her lap. Caroline went above and beyond what anyone might be expected to offer—both in terms of time, creativity, and generosity of spirit. We have all benefitted tremendously from her leadership and faithful service. Caroline is not leaving us, but simply shifting her focus to the arrival of her first grandchild in September. While we officially celebrated Caroline’s leadership in June, please be sure to thank her the next time you see her!
I am thrilled that Vicki Barnett has been working alongside Caroline, and Junior Warden, Tom Halvorson, and will begin serving in this capacity effective immediately. Vicki’s wise leadership and deep faithfulness will be a gift to me, the Vestry, and our whole community. For those who have not yet had the pleasure of working with Vicki, you can read a bit more about her, and other Vestry members, here.
There are many ways in which your gifts for leadership may be honored and celebrated at St. Michael’s. Please be in touch if you’d like to learn more about opportunities to serve.
