Adult Choir The Adult Choir participates at the 10:00 a.m. service most Sunday mornings and at Evensong and other special services periodically throughout the year. The choir presents music in many styles from all periods of church music. Rehearsals are held in the Music Room on Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday mornings 45 minutes prior to the later service.
During the summer months, the Adult Choir becomes a less formal Summer Choir, which sings every other Sunday at the later service, rehearsing on those Sundays between the services. New members are always welcome.
Youth Choir The Youth Choir participates at the 10:00 a.m. Sunday service at least twice a month during the school year. Rehearsals are held Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. The choir makes use of hand bells, Orff instruments (given in memory of Betty Pollak, a former member), and folk and rhythm instruments from time to time, especially to mark the festivals of the church. New members are especially welcome and can join at any time.
Handbell Choir The Handbell Choir prepares music for a three-octave set of English handbells given in memory of St. Claire Craighill. At St. Michael’s, the hand bells are generally used liturgically to accompany the singing of psalms, hymns, and anthems. The Handbell Choir regularly participates in the liturgy on the major feasts of the church as well as on other appropriate occasions. Rehearsals are held on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. (but not every week).
Opportunities for All The Parish’s music program depends on the willingness of parishioners to participate in the praise of God through music. The congregation itself is a major participant by singing the hymns and service music. But if you have been considering a more active participation by joining one of the choirs or by serving as an instrumentalist on occasion, please contact David Donaldson, our organist and choirmaster, at music@stmichaelsarlington.org.
