The members of Altar Guild prepare the altar in the sanctuary for all services, as well as the Children’s Chapel altar. They clear the altar after each service and maintain the linens and vessels used in the services.
The altar is decorated with appropriate floral decorations on Palm Sunday, Easter, Pentecost, and Christmas. The weekly flowers are delivered to parishioners after the service. A card, signed by the Rector, is enclosed stating that these flowers come from the altar at St. Michael’s Church.
Altar flowers are dedicated as memorials of thanksgiving, in memory of, or in honor of parishioners and their requested dedications are placed in the weekly service leaflet. The suggested donation of $35 helps defray the cost of flowers and all other altar supplies such as the altar candles, aumbry lights, communion wine, communion wafers, laundering of the fair linen, and other supplies to enhance our worship.
Weekly Altar Guild duties include preparation of the nursing home kits for Morning Prayer or Holy Eucharist for the Nursing Home Ministry as well as the preparation of the lay eucharistic kits used to provide Holy Eucharist for the homebound and the sick.
The Altar Guild teams are also responsible for preparing the church for weddings, funerals, and baptisms as well as for the Bishop’s visit for confirmations, receptions, and reaffirmations.
