Adult education at St. Michael's consists of a variety of program and events throughout the year which give our adult members opportunities for greater understanding of the Christian faith and for learning about ways we can enrich our own lives and those of others through faith.
Many Sundays we hold an Adult Forum following the 10:00 a.m. service. Adult programs are also periodically scheduled on weekday evenings or even over a weekend.
Recent adult programs have included a Lenten bible study series on the Book of Job, programs on energy and environmental stewardship and the Care of Creation, a rector-led series on the tenets of our faith for newcomers and those who wanted a refresher, adult prayer and study sessions at our parish retreats, and an expert speaker series on the spirituality and life of Dietrich Bonhoeffer.
Inquirer's Class A regular program, timed to conclude with the annual bishop's visit, is the Inquirer's Class, which prepares adults and youth for confirmation, reception and reaffirmation in The Episcopal Church.
What's the difference? Confirmation is "a mature and public affirmation of faith and commitment to the responsibilities of Baptism" (BCP). Reception is common for people who have been active throughout their lives in other denominations. Reaffirmation means that you choose to re-state your commitment to Christ in The Episcopal Church, honoring your growth in faith throughout your spiritual journey.
