Acolyte Ministry

The term acolyte comes from the Greek word akolouthos, meaning “follower” or “attendant”. Participation in processions, lighting/extinguishing candles, and assisting the priest’s preparation for the Eucharist continue traditions from the earliest days of the Church.

At St. Michael’s this ministry includes parishioners of all ages and provides an opportunity to participate in, and experience our services from a different perspective.

For anyone curious about being an acolyte, now is a perfect time to begin the simple training required to become an acolyte and get added to the rotation to serve on the altar. We have plenty of opportunities! Please contact Wil Harkins at acolytecontact@stmichaelsarlington.org.

Also see our FAQs page for more on Acolytes.
